Formation model of the Hakone Volcano
①Around 400,000 to 230,000 years ago,The stratovolcanic group that forms the “somma” we see today is formed.
②Around 230,000 to 130,000 years ago, The caldera is formed through an eruption accompanying a massive pyroclastic flow.
③Around 130,000 to 80,000 years ago, The “Older Central Cone” is formed through eruptions where large amounts of lava stream out.
④Around 80,000 to 40,000 years ago, Once again, an eruption accompanying a massive pyroclastic flow occurs.
⑤From 40,000 years ago onwards, The “Younger Central Cone” is formed through an eruption of lava inside the caldera.
